WHAT IS THE BEST SEASON TO VISIT CUSCO?

Cusco seasons
Cusco is a city in the southeast of Peru located near the Andes mountain range, the city has become an important tourist destination and has two defined seasons:
December to April is the rainy season and is the lowest season, and from May to November is the dry season and is the highest season.
Each specific Cusco season has its advantages and disadvantages that we now detail:
Rainy season or low season
Advantages:
- In this season the landscapes are much greener, all the cultivated fields are green, it is beautiful, the river is with more water, and the beautiful sun also rises
- Less influx of tourists, so you can enjoy many places with less tourist presence.
- The costs of the tours at this time are promotional, there are many promotions
- We have sunny and cool days for the season or the rains that occur, there is rain that stops at times.
- It is less cold; it is hotter and the temperature is a little cooler due to the increase in humidity.
Disadvantages:
- The presence of rain, does not mean that it rains all day, it does not rain every day or all day, during the week it can rain one or two days and well, during one day it rains for one or two hours and the day is also quite sunny, that’s the weather in the Andes.
- It could be said that the sky is less blue but still has a lot of sun, which is still very beautiful.
- It is important to mention that the month with the most rain is February, the weather is not very good, there is wind and the sky may not be clear for viewing some places like Machu Picchu.
Dry season and high season
Advantages
- The climate is much drier (there is no more rain) however it is also quite cold.
- It is sunny, there is a lot of sun in the sky, it is very clear, very blue but it is also colder in the mornings, although it seems illogical, it is like that at the same time that it is colder in the mornings or very late at night, during the day it is also hotter because it is sunnier, the climate is more contrasted.
Disadvantages
- The crowd of tourists because is the highest season and we have quite a presence of tourists in the main tourist attractions of Cusco.
- High costs in the tours, obviously, because it is the time with the most influx, costs tend to rise quite a bit in these months
- The places for Machu Picchu are quite limited due to the busy season, so it is better to book a place in advance.
- The landscape is less green but more yellowish due to the dryness of the crops, the crop fields are drier but it is also beautiful.
So, when is the best time to visit Cusco?
The whole year is beautiful to go to Cusco; however, the dry season is considered the high season, “the best season”, which goes from May to October due to the little presence of rain and clearer skies, especially to visit Machu Picchu.
However, everything depends on the weather, the type of traveller you are, and above all, it depends a lot on personal tastes:
If you are an adventurer then you can throw yourself at any of the dates to be able to travel to Cusco, but if you are a little more traditional, then you choose the one that can suit you best for your journey in Cusco and live a unique and unforgettable experience.
So now you just have to choose the best option for you!
