Humantay Lagoon Tour: A Journey to Serenity
At the break of dawn, our adventure begins with a 7:00 am departure, driving through the winding roads towards Mollepata. The crisp mountain air fills your lungs as we pause to pay entrance fees and take a brief respite. Continuing our ascent, we journey for 1.5 hours to Soraypampa, the trailhead of our pilgrimage.
Embark on a 1.5-hour hike, or choose a graceful horse ride for an additional 80 soles, as we traverse through the awe-inspiring landscapes. As the morning groups fade into the distance, we arrive at the enchanting Humantay Lagoon. Here, the turquoise waters glisten under the sun’s gentle caress, framed by the towering Salkantay Mountain. This sacred oasis is ours to cherish, where peace and tranquility reign supreme.
After basking in the lagoon’s beauty, we descend for an hour back to our awaiting transport. A hearty lunch awaits us, providing nourishment and delight. Our souls rejuvenated, we embark on a 2-hour drive back to Cusco, our hearts full of memories and wonder.

Altitude sickness
As soon as people reserve their trip to Peru, specifically to Cusco, they often start to worry about altitude sickness. Higher altitudes have less oxygen than at sea level, making your body work harder to get the oxygen it needs.
During our Humantay Lake Tour, we always carry an oxygen tank and a first aid kit. Our guides are well-trained to assist you in case you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness. Rest assured, your safety and well-being are our top priorities.
For farther information about altitude sickness please read our article HERE.
Weather
The weather at Humantay Lake is notoriously unpredictable. While Cusco’s dry season typically spans from April through October, rain can still surprise you in June, and sunshine may brighten December. It’s best to be prepared for any weather.
Ensure you pack appropriate clothing, including a waterproof jacket, pants, and rain poncho.
Additionally, brace yourself for a potentially chilly day during the Humantay lake Tour. At the summit, it can be both cold and windy, so dress warmly to enjoy the breathtaking views comfortably.
Arriving to Cusco
The best way to get to Cusco is by air and there are several airline options. LATAM tends to be the most expensive, but it has more flight options. But you also have PERUVIAN, AVIANCA, STAR PERU, LC PERU to choose according to your preference.
Expect flight delays or cancellations, due to the high altitude of Cusco, tends to be difficult to land so that on rainy days you can paralyze air traffic.
Travel Insurance
To safeguard your travel investment, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. Obtaining coverage before your trip is straightforward and essential. Various insurance providers offer plans tailored to your country of origin and duration of stay. Take the time to review options and choose the one that best fits your needs. This precaution ensures peace of mind while visiting Peru.
Community Commitment
At Peru Private Tours (PPT), we take immense pride in our community work, which is the cornerstone of our mission. We collaborate directly with local villages to address their families’ needs, providing school supplies, books, and clothing to children. Our team receives ongoing training, reinforcing our commitment to the Andean community. Additionally, for every booking, we plant a tree, contributing to environmental sustainability. Thank you for supporting this meaningful project.
